Your basket is just below the free shipping threshold, or you're looking for a small gift. Here's what you can find for under €5, by category and with prices included.
Your shopping cart is at €23.40, and free shipping starts at €25. Or perhaps you've bought a gift and want to add a small item to complete it. Or you're ordering for an association and have fifteen euros left in the budget. In all three cases, you're looking for the same thing: something for a few euros that you'll actually use, not junk that disappears into a drawer after a week.
There's more available for under five euros than you might think — but the quality in that price range also varies the most. Below is what's available in that category, organized by its intended use, with prices included so you can calculate for yourself.
Packaging and Shipping: The Most Value for Your Money
Nowhere is the price per item as low as with packaging materials in bundles. This makes this category ideal for completing an order, because you'll need it eventually.
Please note one thing with those bundles of 500: the price is low because you're buying a lot of them. That's only advantageous if you actually use them up, and if you can store them dry and flat. A box of envelopes left in a damp shed for two years will stick together on its own.
On Your Desk and at the Packing Table
Consumables are the second category where a little money goes a long way. They run out, so keeping a stock is rarely wasted money.
For cutting tools, it's wise to order the knife and blades at the same time. People rarely replace a dull blade the moment it becomes dull — they only do it when there's a spare in the drawer.
Party: Where Quantity Matters More Than Price
There are plenty of party supplies under five euros. The question isn't whether it's cheap, but whether you have enough for the number of guests.
The Birthday Name Candles (€1.00) can be ordered per name — handy, because a cake candle with the right name costs the same as a generic one. LED Balloons 5 pieces (€2.95) work better the earlier it gets dark; count on about one set per table if you're using them as lighting, not as decoration in a corner.
And for the unexpected joke: Trick Egg - Tray of 24 pieces (€1.99) or the Mini Spy Mirror Glasses (€2.00). Small items like these work better as giveaways in a goodie bag than one expensive gift, simply because everyone gets one.
Giving a Gift: Small But Not Cheap-Looking
The hardest thing in this price range is finding something that doesn't look cheap. Two things help: choose an item with a clear function, or put it in a small box.
If you're ordering extra to meet a free shipping threshold, do this calculation. Suppose shipping costs €4.95 and free shipping starts at €25. Your current total is €21.50.
You're €3.50 short. If you don't add anything, you'll pay €26.45 in total.
If you add €3.50 worth of items, you'll pay €25.00 — and you'll have an extra item.
If you add €8.00 worth of items, you'll pay €29.50. This is more expensive than option 2, so it only makes sense if you truly wanted that item.
The pitfall is to do option 3 and convince yourself it was option 2. Therefore, choose something you would buy anyway: batteries, envelopes, pens, tape. Consumables run out — decorations usually don't.
See for Yourself
The full selection in this price range can be found in the collection €5.00.
