A gift for your partner: choose based on habits instead of schedule

Choosing a gift for your partner works better if you look at what someone uses daily rather than what's on sale. A practical buying guide with budgets, materials, and packaging included.
You're in the kitchen the night before a birthday and realize you have nothing yet. Then it usually comes down to flowers, or something expensive that you hope will be well-received. Neither rarely works out well: the first is forgotten before the weekend is over, the second remains in the closet because it's just not something someone would wear or use.
A gift for your partner becomes better if you ask a different question. Not: what is a nice gift? But: what does that person use every week, and what of it is almost gone, worn out, or never bought in a more luxurious version? That sounds like a boring starting point, but it yields gifts that actually get used up. Below are the steps, along with what it costs us.
Start with what's running out
Consumables are the safest starting point. You're never wrong with size, taste, or style, and the gift won't disappear into a drawer. Look in the bathroom or on the nightstand: which bottle is almost empty, and which variant does that person never buy themselves because the regular one is cheaper?
When it comes to scents, keep one thing in mind: scent is taste. Don't buy anything with a strong scent for someone who keeps everything neutral at home. If in doubt, choose a smaller size, so a miss doesn't sit in the bathroom for half a year.
Something you use together counts double
A gift that results in an evening is often remembered better than an object. Think of light and atmosphere instead of things: a table or windowsill that looks different costs little and remains.
Add something you open that same evening — a bottle, some treats — and you have a gift with a moment attached to it instead of just a package.
Giving jewelry without knowing the size
Jewelry is the classic partner gift and at the same time the gift that most often goes wrong. Rings require a size that you rarely know precisely. Necklaces are more forgiving: there, the length determines how it falls, and you can copy that from something already in the closet.
Two practical points. First, check what color metal someone wears: those who wear everything in silver tones often put gold away. And check if the clasp suits how someone wears it — a delicate clasp is harder to fasten if you take it on and off every day.
Perfume is personal, and that's precisely why a large bottle is a gamble. If you still want to give something with a scent, choose small or choose a set, so there's something to try.
A €15 gift in a nice box makes a better impression than the same gift in the store bag you carried it in. For small items like jewelry, a perfume bottle, or a keyring, a box costing a few euros is sufficient.
Measure the gift before ordering a box. A 30 ml bottle fits in almost anything, a 250 ml bottle does not. And if the gift is being mailed, keep in mind that a gift box is not a shipping box: another box should go around it.

What else you can check out
If you're stuck, start with the category where your partner most often buys something themselves. Check out Jewelry & Watches for necklaces and rings, Perfume for scents in small and large sizes, Home Accessories for light and ambiance in the home, Massage & Relaxation for oils and lotions, and Gift Packaging & Gift Boxes for the box around it. If you're unsure about a size, a dimension, or how something is delivered packaged? Feel free to email info@verpakkingdeals.nl — we'll check it for you before you order.
