Teachers' Day in 2026 falls on Monday, October 5th. Three decisions to make: a joint gift or something per child, what to buy, and how to wrap it — with an example calculation for a class of 28.

The group chat for group 6 comes alive on October 2nd. "Did you know that Monday is Teacher's Day?" Then follow eighteen thumbs-up emojis, three suggestions, and no one orders anything. On Sunday evening, one parent frantically buys a bouquet of flowers at the gas station. It can be easier, and cheaper, if you make three decisions a week earlier.

Teacher's Day falls on October 5th. In 2026, that will be a Monday. The date is internationally recognized — outside the Netherlands, the day is known as World Teachers' Day — and schools, sports clubs, and music associations are increasingly using it to thank coaches, conductors, and volunteers. That means for you: start this weekend, not Sunday evening.

Decision 1: one gift or thirty small ones?

This is the most important choice, because everything else follows from it. Three variations that work in practice:

  • One collective gift. Each parent contributes €2 to €3. With 28 children, you'll have €56 to €84. Advantage: one thing to buy. Disadvantage: someone has to collect the money, and that takes more time than the gift itself.
  • Each child something small. No collection, no treasurer. Disadvantage: the teacher receives 28 of the same thing and carries it home in two bags.
  • The middle ground. One small token per child that together forms one gift — for example, thirty identical boxes that together make up one filled basket. This is the variant that least gets out of hand.

Agree on the amount out loud and put it in the app, with a deadline. "Tikkie €2.50 by Thursday at the latest" works; "everyone whatever you want" leads to four parents paying €20 and twelve doing nothing.

Decision 2: something that gets used up, not something that stays put

A teacher with fifteen years of experience has a cupboard full of mugs, candles, and picture frames. Therefore, choose something that will be consumed. That sounds less festive, but it will actually be used.

Chocolate in multipacks is the practical middle ground: you can hand it out to the whole team or give it as one package. Consider TWIX 10-pack, 500 grams (€7.95), Nestlé LION XXL 10-pack, 420 grams (€7.95) or Mars Chocolate bars 10-pack, 450 grams (€7.95). For the kindergarten class, Jimmy's Popcorn Sweet, 100 grams (€4.95) works well, and a Marshmallow Lolly with bear and love text, vanilla flavor (€3.99) is small enough to give per child without the stack becoming absurd.

If you want to go for personal care: Soap Rose (€5.00) is a nice individual gift, and the Soap Roses Gift Set Deluxe, 18 pieces (€19.95) works as one collective gift from the class fund. An Oriental Body Scrub Hammam Pot, 500 grams (€5.95) falls into the same category: a consumable item, not a dust collector. For scented and care products, do ask around if someone prefers unscented — that saves a gift disappearing unopened into the cupboard.

Decision 3: the packaging does half the work

This is where a €5 gift will look like a €15 gift. A chocolate bar in a box with a card is a gift; the same bar loose in a bag is a chocolate bar.

For a flat gift — a bar, a voucher, a card — a Black Flat Gift Box with Window 12.5 x 8.5 x 1.5 cm (€1.99) or the same box in light pink (€1.99) fits. The window is the point here: you immediately see what's inside, so you don't have to write a card stating what it is. For something with volume — a jar of scrub, a bag of candy — the White Cube Gift Box 12 x 12 x 12 cm (€2.99) is the safest size, and for something small, the Black Gift Box with Window 8.5 x 6 x 3 cm (€2.99).

Does a child have to carry it themselves? Then a box with a handle beats any ribbon: the Yellow Treat Box with Handle 15 x 8 x 8 cm (€2.99) or a Cardboard Bag (€3.00). If it's one gift on behalf of the whole class and you want it to really stand out: Luxury Gift Box 9 x 9 cm, black with gold design (€7.99). For a piece of jewelry or a key ring, the Jewelry Box Black 9 x 6.5 x 2.8 cm (€2.95) is enough.

Example calculation: 28 children, €2.50 per child

Item Quantity Cost
Chocolate multipack (10 bars) 3 packs € 23.85
Flat gift box with window 28 pieces € 55.72
Total € 79.57

With 28 children at €2.50 each, you have €70 in the pot — then you switch to one box for every two children, or to cheaper packaging. Such a three-line calculation prevents the discussion afterward about who still has to chip in.

For the coach, the conductor, and the volunteer

At a sports club or association, it's slightly different: there you often thank several people at once and see them on one evening. In that case, use identical boxes and one card that everyone signs, instead of coming up with something different for each person. Buy the packaging in bulk — the gift boxes above are available in stocks of a hundred, so what's left over you can use for the next anniversary or farewell. Also, immediately include a strip with who is giving the gift: loose cards get lost at a club evening.

If you send it by mail

Is the teacher sick, on leave, or working at another location? Then the thank you note will be sent by mail. In that case, do NOT choose a gift box with a window, because it is not designed to be sent loose. A Recycled Letterbox Box 180 x 115 x 28 mm (A6), bundle of 100 pieces (€17.95) is 28 mm high and thus fits through a standard letterbox. Place the gift box inside, fill the space so nothing shifts, and tape the card to the inside of the lid — that way it's not the first thing to blow away when opening. A Pink Shipping Box 15 x 10 x 4 cm (€1.99) is an alternative if you want to send something thicker.

What you arrange today

Put the amount and deadline in the app, choose one of the three variants, and order packaging and contents all at once. You can find packaging at Gift Packaging and Gift Boxes, contents at Candy and Soap and Dispensers, and everything for shipping at Letterbox Packaging. If you are ordering for an entire school or association and want to know how much a larger number of boxes costs, send your quantities to info@verpakkingdeals.nl, and we will help you find the right size and what is in stock.
