You don't need to buy a complete costume for a theme party. With two or three accessories, you'll be recognisable - we list what these are per theme and what to look out for regarding size and stock.

The invitation says "theme party" and you don't have a costume. The temptation is strong to order a complete outfit that you wear for one night and never see again. But you don't have to: at most theme parties, an outfit is recognized by two or three accessories, not a complete costume. A hat, a mask, and something for your waist – that's usually enough to be recognizable in photos and at the bar.

Below, you'll find for each theme which accessories do the job, what you can wear with them from your own wardrobe, and what to look for in terms of size and quantity if you're ordering for a group.

Why three accessories are usually enough

A look is recognized by its silhouette, and you define that silhouette in three places: your head, your waist, and your hands. Put something there that matches the theme, and the rest can simply be your own black pants and shirt. This saves money, avoids sizing hassle, and allows you to get through the evening without being stuck in a hot costume.

Practically, this means: first choose the headwear or mask, as that's the most visible. Then choose something for your waist – suspenders, a belt, a sash. And as a third item, pick something small for your hands or neck, like gloves or a garland. More than three items rarely make the look clearer.

Western and Country

The most recognizable western accessory is the hat, especially a felt model with a chin cord. That cord is not a detail: at a busy party, your hat will constantly blow or get knocked off your head otherwise, and with a cord, it just hangs on your back if you want to take it off for a moment.

In the store, there are two felt models in one size: the Cowboy Hat Felt German Flag One Size with Cord for €4.95 and the Cowboy Hat Felt French Flag with Cord for €4.95. Both have a flag print, which also makes them suitable for a country theme or a supporters' evening. Combine with jeans, a checkered shirt, and optionally Leopard Print Suspenders (€9.95).

Uniforms: Police, Navy, and Aviation

Uniform themes are popular because they require little effort: a cap plus a white or dark blue shirt already reads as a uniform. For caps, pay special attention to the brim and fit, as that's what you'll see in photos.

Steampunk and Industrial

Steampunk is the theme where accessories make the biggest difference, because the style revolves around details: copper, gears, goggles, and top hats. You don't need to wear a historical costume underneath – a brown or black base is enough.

A Steampunk Top Hat with Goggles in brown costs €18.00 and provides two elements at once: headwear and glasses. If you want something more elaborate, there's the Steampunk Hat Deluxe Multi-coloured for €19.95. For a mask, there's the Steampunk Mask Aaric Gold-coloured (€14.95) and the more pronounced Steampunk Mask Phantom Gold-coloured (€24.95). There are only a few of these masks in stock, so they're suitable for yourself, not for a group of ten.

Masquerade Ball and Anonymous Looks

At a masquerade party, the main question is: how long can you keep the mask on? A mask that covers your entire face is photogenic but hot, and eating and drinking become difficult. A half-mask or nose mask is more practical for an evening where you're mostly talking.

The Rabbit Mask in white or black (€14.95) is a graphic, neutral choice that suits many themes. The Fancy Dress Nose Masks cost €4.95 and are the cheapest way to let an entire table put something on without anyone being stuck behind plastic all evening.

Punk, Neon, and Eighties

For an eighties or neon party, you rarely need to buy anything but color. A Mohawk Iroquois Wig costs €4.95 and instantly changes your silhouette; Neon Gloves in 4 colors cost €5.95 and work well in photos with flash. Those who prefer color on their head rather than a wig can look at the Rainbow Hat - Pride Fedora Unisex (€9.95) or the Rainbow Curly Wig (€12.95).

Chic with a Wink

For a gala, casino, or "dress to impress" evening, the reverse order works: you wear regular smart clothing and add one exaggerated element. A Complete Tuxedo Set costs €7.95 and is designed to be worn over your own shirt. Red Suspenders with Bow Tie (€9.95) do the same for a fraction of a complete suit. And if the party has a birthday person or a winner: an Inflatable Crown costs €5.95, or choose the Tiara Devil Horns Red for €4.95.

Size, Stock, and Quantities

Three things to check before you check out. Size: many party accessories are one size; for hats with a cord or elastic, this is usually not a problem, but for stiff caps it can be. Check the size information on the product page and, if in doubt, order the model with an adjustable strap. Stock: some items have two or three pieces in stock. If you want to dress an entire group in the same theme, choose items that are available in dozens, such as the neon police cap or the cowboy hats. Timing: order at least a week before the party, so you can still exchange or supplement if something is disappointing.

Afterward, store what you buy together in one box or crate. Hats, masks, and wigs that are loose in the closet get deformed, and then you'll buy the same thing again next season. Wigs can usually be combed out and put back in their original bag; lay masks flat, not at the bottom.

Curate Your Own

If you want to browse by category: Fancy Dress Accessories are bundled, hats and wigs are under Hats & Wigs, and all face coverings are under Masks. For a broader overview of theme clothing, there's the Carnival collection. If you're unsure if something is in stock for a group, or if you're looking for a quantity not shown in the webshop?
