You're looking for fifteen identical small gifts, costing just a few euros, and you don't want them gathering dust in a drawer after a week. Here's what works, what doesn't, and how to wrap them.
There comes a time when you suddenly need fifteen small gifts. A colleague's farewell, your child's class, the club's volunteers, or stuffing a Christmas hamper. The budget is around five to ten euros per item. And you know from experience that half of what you buy disappears into a drawer within a week.
The difference between a gift that sits around and one that gets used rarely comes down to price. It's about whether it does something. Below is a practical guide, with actual prices included.
First the question: is it one gift or fifteen?
That makes more of a difference than you might think. For one person, you can choose something that suits them. For fifteen people, it needs to be something almost everyone can use, regardless of taste, age, or household.
For a group, three rules apply. It must be understandable without explanation. It must not be size-dependent (so no clothing or jewelry). And it must be stackable, because you need to be able to carry fifteen items.
Under €3: handouts and package fillers
In this price range, you're not buying a main gift, but a nice addition. Exactly what you need if you want to supplement a Christmas hamper or fill a goodie bag.
Here you can start with something you can hand over without embarrassment. Preferably choose something that gets used rather than something that is just looked at.
Shot Glasses Set 6 pieces - 60 ml — € 3.00. Six glasses for three euros is one of the strongest price-to-content ratios in this segment.
A mug is often dismissed as unimaginative, but it scores on all three group rules: no size, no explanation needed, and it's used daily. Pay attention to the capacity. Below 300 ml, a mug is too small for many people to truly use.
Between €6 and €10: the gift with a joke
In this class, you can choose something that elicits a reaction. Handy if you're handing out the gift on the spot and want to be able to say something about it.
A four-euro gift in a nice box looks like a proper present. The same gift loose in a plastic bag looks like leftover stock. Budget about two to three euros extra per item for packaging, and the entire budget will feel twice as high.
For mugs and glassware, a box isn't just cosmetic. A 12 x 12 x 12 cm cube box leaves just enough room to add some padding around the item, so nothing breaks in the bag on the way.
Three pitfalls
Something with a size. Clothing, rings, and watches are almost always a miss with a group. Keep it sizeless.
Too many loose items. Five different gifts of €2 feel like leftover stock. One gift of €8 in a box feels like a proper present.
Ordering too late. If you want fifteen identical items, check before November. Small items are sold per piece, and the stock of one specific model can run out faster than you think.
