From step displays to price stickers: how to build a stall that stops visitors in their tracks and where checkout and packing run smoothly. Practical choices for autumn and Christmas markets.

You can recognize a stall that isn't working by how people walk past it: a quick look, a tilted head, and then they move on. Usually, it's not about what you're selling. It's because everything is laid out at tabletop eye-level, prices are missing, and when it's time to pay, you're fumbling in a bag for a coin purse. Registrations for autumn markets, fairs, and Christmas markets are now open, so this is the time to critically review your stall.

This guide isn't about what you sell, but about the items around it: height in your setup, accurate pricing, and packaging that makes transport easy.

Height is the difference between looking and stopping

A flat table forces people to look down. Anyone walking past your stall will then see nothing. As soon as you elevate part of your offerings, it becomes visible from five meters away, and that's precisely the distance at which someone decides whether to stop or walk on.

A step display does that work for you. In clear acrylic, it doesn't draw attention to itself but literally lifts your products. Two sizes in our assortment:

If you sell something that can be hung, like keychains, magnets, or small cards, a standing holder works better than a display where everything lies flat. The Metal Display Holder for Keychains (€ 17.95, in black or white) allows visitors to browse your offerings without having to rummage through everything.

A rule of thumb that applies to most stalls: aim for three heights. Something at table level to touch, something at medium height in a display, and something at the top that's visible from afar. Crates, overturned boxes under a cloth, or a sturdy moving box of 480 x 430 x 330 mm (€ 3.50) serve well as risers — and afterward, you can pack your items back into them.

Prices: no price means no sale

At a market, not everyone asks how much something costs. Those who are hesitant and don't see a price are more likely to walk away than to ask. Pricing each product individually will cost you half an hour at home and will bring peace of mind all day long.

For small items, a pricing gun is the fastest way. You set the price once and then click stickers onto your products as fast as you can grab them. In the assortment:

Product What you get Price
Pricing Gun MX-5500 Red Gun, 5500 stickers, 2 ink rolls € 24.95
Pricing Gun with Stickers, Blue Gun, 5500 stickers, 3 ink rolls € 24.95
Pricing Gun MX-5500 with 50,000 stickers Gun plus large sticker supply € 59.95

If your supply runs out, you can replenish with white price stickers, 5000 pieces (€ 9.95) or a refillable ink roll of 20 mm (€ 2.95). Always carry that ink roll in your box: a gun that spits out blank stickers halfway through the day is useless.

If you're running promotions or have different categories, colored price stickers in 6 colors (500 pieces, € 2.95) are handy. One color per price group saves you a lot of explanation: yellow is everything for five euros, green everything for ten.

Packaging is part of the sale

The moment someone pays is also the moment your product becomes vulnerable. A piece of jewelry that disappears loosely into a jacket pocket will arrive home damaged. A small box costs you a few tens of euros over an entire market day and turns a purchase into a gift.

For small items like jewelry, pins or small decorations:

A box with a window has a pleasant side effect: the customer can see what's inside, so you don't have to open it to show what you're selling. For slightly larger items, the White Cube Gift Box 12 x 12 x 12 cm (€ 2.99) works well, and for something that needs to be carried, the Yellow Treat Box with Handle 15 x 8 x 8 cm (€ 2.99). A handle is more practical at a busy market than you might think: people already have their hands full.

A paper bag like the Cardboard Bag Always In My Heart (€ 3.00) is the simplest way for someone to walk on with free hands — and it acts as an advertisement throughout the rest of the market.

The box you always take with you

What you forget, you can't easily get at a market. A dedicated box of essentials will save you stress every time. Our recommendations for its contents:

  1. Pricing gun, spare stickers, and an ink roll
  2. A stack of boxes and bags, generously provisioned
  3. Tape, scissors, and a marker
  4. Self-adhesive hooks 6 x 6 cm, 10 pieces (€ 5.95) to hang something on a stall pole or back wall
  5. Small change, plus a spare charger for your phone or card reader

Do you also sell online and take orders at the market? Then bring some shipping packaging so you can prepare an order that same evening. A bundle of recycled letterbox boxes 255 x 160 x 28 mm (A5+), 100 pieces (€ 24.00) covers most small items.

Setup, breakdown, and the day after

Allow more time for setup than you think: an hour is realistic if you're working with displays. Take a photo of your setup at home once it's arranged correctly, and you'll build it in half the time next time.

When breaking down, it pays to pack by category instead of dumping everything into one box. Jewelry boxes with the jewelry, displays in one box, pricing gun in the kit. You'll thank yourself the next morning.

And at the end of the day, reflect: which product was at eye level and which product was flat? What sold? In one market day, you'll learn more about your presentation than from any guide.

Getting started

Start small: one display, prices on everything, and enough boxes. That's less than fifty euros in total and it will immediately change the look of your stall. Everything you need can be found under Storage, Pricing Guns & Labels, Gift Packaging & Gift Boxes, and Packaging & Shipping.
