A tech gift under €25: gadgets that are still used after a week

Giving tech as a gift often goes wrong because it solves a problem the recipient didn't have. A selection under €25 that is used daily, with combinations per type of recipient.
There's a category of gifts that score well when unwrapped but end up in a drawer three weeks later. This happens more often than average with tech gadgets, because they look impressive in the store, and only at home does it become apparent that they solve a problem the recipient didn't have. A second charger when they already own three. A speaker that only works with an app nobody installs.
Autumn is the season when these kinds of gifts are bought: birthdays, thank-you gifts in the office, and then the December holidays. Below is a selection under €25 that you buy based on one question: does this solve a small, daily irritation? That's the best predictor of whether something will actually be used.
The Rule: Something that Replaces What's Already Broken
Almost everyone walks around with a minor tech annoyance that isn't quite big enough for them to fix themselves. A charging cable that's fraying. Earbuds that fall out of your pocket. A phone propped against the wall while cooking. These are precisely the things that a ten to twenty-euro gift can address.
The opposite — a gadget with a function the recipient has never missed — ends up in the drawer. So don't look at what's fun to give, but at what you've seen someone doing.
Three Questions Before You Buy
Does the recipient already have this? For chargers, cables, and cases, the answer is "yes" more often than you might think.
Does it work without installation? Anything that requires an account, app, or pairing will lose a portion of recipients.
Does it fit the device they actually use? An accessory for a laptop that only sits in the attic is not a gift.
Under €10: The Minor Annoyances
In this price range, you're buying solutions, not devices. They're cheap enough to combine two or three into one gift.
Cable Protectors, Set of 4 (€1.95). The point where a charging cable usually breaks is almost always near the plug. These protectors go around it. The most unspectacular gift on this list, and probably the most used.
Keychain Mini Whistle, 5 Colors (€2.95). Not tech, but a classic add-on to a tech gift for someone who often cycles in the dark.
€10 to €15: The Small Devices
This is the most obvious gift budget, and also where most bad buys happen. Pay particular attention to size and whether something works without installation.
Power Bank 3000 mAh, Red (€14.95). A compact power bank with USB output. 3000 mAh isn't weekend capacity but is enough to get a phone through a long day. Its small size is precisely what makes it actually go into a bag — large power banks stay home.
Stereo Speaker with Phone Holder, USB and AUX (€14.95). Works via cable, so no pairing hassle, and the phone holder is built-in. Practical for a desk, a kitchen, or a student room.
RGB Gaming Mouse 3200 DPI, 6 Buttons, USB (€12.95). Wired, plug-and-play, and with six buttons, enough for someone who plays occasionally. For those who primarily work, this is also just a better mouse than the standard one that came with the laptop.
Above fifteen euros, you can expect something that will get its own place on the desk.
BattleTron Gaming Mouse (€19.95). A step above the entry-level mouse, still wired and therefore no batteries.
Battletron XXL Mouse Pad 80 x 30 cm (€19.95). A large surface under both keyboard and mouse. Measure the desk beforehand: 80 centimeters wide is more than many people think.
Batteries: The Forgotten Enclosure
Does the gift require batteries? Include them. Few things are as disappointing as a device that won't turn on on the birthday itself. A set of Panasonic AAA batteries, 4 pieces (€9.95) costs little and makes the difference between immediate use and next week.
Combining into One Gift
Under €25, one item often feels a bit meager, and three items are too much. Two usually works best: one main item and one small item that completes it. A few logical combinations:
For Whom
Combination
Total Approx.
Someone who travels a lot
Power Bank 3000 mAh + cable protectors
€16.90
Someone with wireless earbuds
Accessory set with carabiner + anti-loss cord
€10.90
A remote worker
RGB gaming mouse + USB 2.0 hub 4 ports
€22.90
Someone who loses everything
Smart Finder key tracker + keychain whistle
€17.90
The amounts mentioned are the sum of the individual prices; check the product pages for current prices.
Wrapping Without Rattling
Small tech items in a large box slide around and feel cheaper than they are. Choose a box that fits snugly and fill any gaps. For a combination of two small items, a flat box is often sufficient; if the package is being shipped, wrap the loose components separately so they don't clink together in transit.
What to Look For When Ordering
A few things that go wrong more often with this product group than with others:
Colors and variants. Some items are available in multiple colors; which one you get depends on what's in stock. If it says "3 colors" or "5 colors" in the title, check the product page to see if you can choose.
Stock for small quantities. Only a few pieces of some electronics may be in stock. If you want five of the same item for a team or class, check before ordering.
Delivery time around the holidays. From mid-November, delivery times increase. It's better to order gifts for December in November than in the last week.
