The venue, catering, and photographer are booked months in advance. The ring boxes, cake topper, and wedding favors are often only sorted out in the last two weeks. This article covers those smaller items, with sizes, prices, and a checklist.

The venue is booked a year in advance, the photographer six months, the caterer three months. And then, two weeks before the day, there's still a list of things to do: where to put the rings, what to put on the cake, and do guests get something to take home? These are small expenses, but they appear in all the photos. Below, we'll go through these items, with specific sizes and prices.

The ring box: choose by hinge and what fits inside

A ring box needs to do two things: stay closed in an inside pocket and stay open when the rings are displayed. The latter is where cheap boxes often fail — a lid that snaps shut just as the photographer takes the shot.

Also, pay attention to the width of the slot. Two narrow rings will fit in almost any box; a wide men's ring or a ring with a large stone may not always. Measure your rings before ordering.

If you want something that stands out in the photo without being a classic box: the Transparent Gold Plastic Treasure Chest 90 x 63 mm (€ 7.95) is large enough to place the rings on a cushion or among rose petals.

Who carries the rings — and where are they until then?

This is the question that most often causes panic on the day itself. Agree on three things beforehand: who carries the box, which pocket or bag it's in, and who takes it over if that person suddenly takes off their jacket because it's hot.

Practical point: a 5x5 cm box fits in a jacket's inside pocket; a 9x9 cm box usually doesn't. If you choose a larger, more decorative box, have someone else carry it — for example, in a bag or on a cushion.

The cake topper: small detail, appears in every cake photo

The topper is one of the few wedding items you'll see years later, as the cake is always photographed. Choose something that matches the height of your cake: a figurine around 10 cm will look different on a single-tier cake than on a three-tier cake.

Stock for cake toppers is limited. Order these earlier than the rest of your list, not in the last week.

Table decoration: less is usually more here

On a set table with plates, glasses, napkins, and a menu, there's little space left. Scatter decorations therefore work better than loose objects: they fill the gaps without getting in the way.

The Rose Petals, 100 pieces (€ 7.95, in pink or blue) can also be used off the table — at the entrance, along a pathway, or around the ring box. The Mini Acrylic Decorative Hearts (20 pieces, € 2.00) are sturdy and won't blow away, which helps at an outdoor location.

For scatter decorations, estimate about one pack per two tables. More quickly becomes messy and ends up in the soup.

Favors: packaging first, contents second

Most couples first decide what goes into the favor and only then where it goes. The reverse works better: first choose a box that fits neatly on the table and stacks well, then find contents that fit inside.

If you're gifting jewelry to your witnesses or parents, the Black Jewelry Box 9 x 6.5 x 2.8 cm (€ 2.95) and the Black Jewelry Box with Gold Splash 9.2 x 7 x 2.7 cm (€ 4.95) are neutral choices. For a single gift that should look more expensive: the Luxury Gift Box 9x9 cm Black with Gold Design (€ 7.99) or the Marble Look White Gift Box 8 x 5 cm (€ 6.99).

Checklist for the last two weeks

  1. Measure rings and try them in the chosen box — don't assume they'll fit.
  2. Agree on who carries the ring box and in which pocket.
  3. Order cake topper and place it once on a regular cake or box to check the height.
  4. Count favors: number of guests plus ten percent reserve.
  5. Fill and stack favors in one box the night before, so they can be brought into the venue all at once.
  6. Divide scatter decorations into bags per table, so whoever decorates the venue doesn't have to think about it.

A small extra that is often well-received by witnesses or parents: a Heart with Arrow Keychain (€ 7.95) or the Love Locks, 2 pieces with 1 key (€ 8.95).
