Lubricant, cleaning supplies, batteries, storage, and packaging: the five add-on purchases you need with an 18+ purchase, with a short checklist before you check out.
An order of €60 consisting of a single item. We see that often. Two weeks later, the same customer returns for a bottle of lubricant, and the week after for batteries. Three shipments, three waits, when it could have been done in one go.
This article is about add-on purchases: the products you need or want with an 18+ purchase, but didn't think of at the time of ordering. Sober and without fuss — what it is, why you need it, and what to consider when choosing.
1. Lubricant: choose based on the material of your item
This is the most forgotten add-on purchase, and at the same time, the one where the choice matters most. Water-based lubricant is the standard: it's easy to rinse off and is recommended by most manufacturers of silicone items. Silicone-based lubricant should not be combined with all materials — so always read the instructions that come with your item before choosing anything.
For water-based lubricants, we offer a wide choice in different sizes and price ranges:
The main difference between a gel and a thinner liquid is how long it stays in place. Gel stays where you apply it longer; a thin variant spreads more easily but needs to be reapplied more often. If you want two things at once, the Nyoy 2-in-1 Massage and Water-Based Lubricant, 100 ml for € 4.00 is a practical choice.
Also consider the combination with condoms. The packaging of condoms usually states which products you can and cannot combine them with — that text is leading, not what you read online. If you're looking for condoms to go with it: Durex Strawberry Condoms, 20 pieces cost € 12.95.
Size: don't buy too small
A 30 ml bottle is quickly used up and expensive per milliliter. For home use, 100 to 150 ml is more practical. If you want lubricant as a giveaway or for on the go, you can look at sachets: the Lubricant Sachets of 7 ml in a box of 120 pieces cost € 59.95, which comes down to a low price per piece — interesting for shops, clubs, or goodie bags, less logical for a single household.
2. Cleaning: the add-on that determines lifespan
An item that you don't clean after use will last shorter and be less pleasant to pick up again. Water and mild soap are the basics, but a special cleaner works faster and dries without residue. Two options with us:
A practical point that people underestimate: let an item dry completely before storing it. Moisture in a closed box or bag is the main reason why stored items smell unpleasant after a few months. After cleaning, place it on a clean cloth and only put it away the next day.
If your item runs on batteries, check before ordering which type it uses. If it's not in the product description, it's on the packaging or in the manual. AAA is the most common size for compact items. We have, among others, Panasonic AAA Zinc, 4 pieces for € 9.95 and the more affordable Dynamic Energy AAA batteries, 16 pieces of 1.5V for € 5.95.
Two points of attention. One: remove batteries if you don't use an item for a long time. Batteries that remain in a device for months can leak, which usually spells the end of the device. Two: if you charge via USB, a power bank is handy if you don't have an outlet nearby. A Power bank of 3000 mAh costs € 14.95 and is small enough for a bag.
4. Storage: out of sight, but dry
After cleaning comes storage, and that's where things often go wrong. Loosely in a drawer, nothing is properly stored: it collects dust, and different materials can lie against each other without you noticing. Store items separately, in a fabric bag or a box, and not in the bathroom where it's humid.
If you're buying something for someone else, the packaging makes the difference between a purchase and a gift. A neutral box works better than gift wrap, as it's not immediately obvious what's inside when handed over. The White Cube Gift Box 12x12x12 cm for € 2.99 has room for an item plus a bottle of lubricant and a cleaner — which immediately makes it a complete gift instead of half.
A quick checklist before you check out
Do I know what material my item is made of, and what type of lubricant the manufacturer recommends for it?
Do I have something to clean it with after use?
Does it run on batteries, and if so: what type and do I have them at home?
Do I have a place to store it dry and separately?
If it's a gift: do I have a suitable box?
Five questions, two minutes of work, and you're done in one order instead of three. Delivery is in neutral packaging without reference to the contents — you don't need to tick anything extra for that.
If you're unsure which lubricant goes with a particular item, or want to know what type of battery something takes? Email info@verpakkingdeals.nl with the product name — we'll check the manufacturer's product information and give you a concrete answer, without sales talk.
