Smaller than expected, or a slightly different colour: usually there’s nothing wrong with your order, but you’ve read too much into the photo. Here’s how to interpret the title, description and image in the right order.
You order something, it arrives, and your first thought is: this is smaller than I expected. Or bigger. Or the color is slightly different. Nothing went wrong with your order — you just read too much into the photo and too little into the accompanying text.
Product photos of 18+ items are studio images. They are made to make the product visible on a small screen, not to provide a scale. Below you'll find what such a photo reliably tells you, what it fundamentally cannot tell you, and how to combine the photo and specifications so that your order meets your expectations.
What you CAN gather from a photo
The shape and proportions within the product. Whether something is straight or curved, if it has a wide base, where the button is, or if there's an eyelet or ring for a cord: you can see that. Shape is precisely what a photo is good for.
The surface. Smooth, ribbed, studded, matte or glossy — you can discern this from a photo, especially if there are multiple images from different angles.
