A Business Buyer's Guide for Adults: Why a Plug's Base is More Important Than Its Length, Which Materials Are Suitable for What, and How to Match Sizing and Lubricant.
This article is intended for adults considering a purchase. It covers product characteristics: shape, dimensions, material, and maintenance. No personal experience stories, but rather the information typically missing from most packaging.
The confusion in this category primarily lies in sizing. Products are usually advertised by their length, while the diameter and base shape determine whether something is usable. Below, we'll go through these characteristics one by one.
The base is the most important part
Anal toys should always have a flared base or a loop that is clearly wider than the product's body. This is not a style choice but a design requirement: without a wide base, an object cannot be reliably retrieved. Products designed for this category have such a base; products from other categories — and certainly household items — do not.
So, when looking at a product photo, first pay attention to the base. A flat, wide foot or a T-shape is what you're looking for. A Rocket Anchor Plug of 8.5 cm (€9.95) is an example: flexible material with a clearly defined base. Models with a suction cup, such as the Silicone Anal Plug 3-pack with suction cup (€24.95, also in purple for €24.99), also have a wide base.
Diameter matters more than length
For most products in this category, thickness is the limiting factor, not length. Yet, length is almost always at the forefront of the product title. Therefore, look for the diameter or cross-section in the specifications.
A few examples from our assortment, so you can get a feel for the scale:
The difference between 2.5 cm and 5.2 cm diameter is significant, even if the lengths are similar. Someone buying for the first time will therefore more often choose a set with ascending sizes rather than a single product. The Anal Starter Set with 4 plugs in ascending sizes costs €14.95; there is also a 3-piece variant for €14.95. This way, you're not buying one gamble, but a range in which you can find what fits.
Shape: plug, beads, or vibrating
Roughly, there are three shape families, each with its own use profile.
Plugs have a tapered tip, a wider middle, and a narrow neck leading to the base. They are designed to stay in place.
There are two practical distinctions you need to know.
Porous versus non-porous. Silicone, stainless steel, and glass are non-porous: their surface does not absorb moisture, allowing for thorough cleaning. Soft materials like jelly, TPE, and PVC are more porous. They are cheaper and more flexible, but they are harder to clean deeply and wear out faster. If you want to use a product for a longer time, silicone is generally the better investment.
Using plenty of lubricant and reapplying it regularly is the rule rather than the exception in this category: unlike elsewhere, there is no natural lubrication here. Do not use products that numb the sensation — you want to be able to notice when something doesn't feel right.
Two common storage mistakes: do not store silicone products loosely against each other, as different types of silicone can react with each other, and use a separate product per person or clean thoroughly in between uses. You can read more about maintenance and lifespan in our article Material, cleaning and storage.
In short
First check the base: wide and clearly flared.
Look at the diameter, not the length.
Start with a set in ascending sizes instead of one large product.
Choose silicone if you want your purchase to last, and combine it with water-based lubricant.
Factor lubricant and cleaner into your budget; they are part of the product.
The full range can be found in the collections Buttplugs, Anal Beads and Anal Sex Toys; the accompanying Lubricant and Toy Cleaners can be found in separate categories. If you have a question about dimensions, material, or the contents of a set — or about how your order will be packaged — please email info@verpakkingdeals.nl.
