Two similar models with slightly different functions. A business comparison of shape, length, drive, material, and maintenance, including the current prices and sizes in the range.
On the shelf, there are two products side by side that, at first glance, appear identical: both curved, both made of silicone-like material, both with a handful of settings. One is called a G-spot vibrator, the other a rabbit. The price difference can range from €9.95 to €59.95. What you get in return varies on four points: shape, length, power source, and maintenance requirements.
This article objectively outlines these points, with the sizes and prices as they are currently listed in the assortment. No recommendations for use — only what you can tell about a product before you buy it.
The difference in one sentence
A G-spot model is a single, usually curved, rod. A rabbit (also called a Tarzan vibrator) is the same model with a second, shorter arm attached at a fixed angle. This second arm makes the product wider, heavier, and often more expensive, and it determines whether the model is suitable for you at all: the distance between the two arms is fixed and not adjustable on most models.
Practical consequence: a G-spot model is more forgiving in terms of fit, a rabbit is not. If you are in doubt and have no experience with the two-armed shape, a single model is the cheaper way to discover what you prefer.
Length: look at the insertable part, not the total
The length in the product title is usually the total length, including the handle and control button. For a rabbit, this also includes the second arm. The Tarzan rabbit vibrator of 24.5 cm (€24.95) and the Ricky rabbit of 23 cm (€19.99) are therefore not 23 or 24.5 cm insertable — a significant part is the grip.
On the other end of the spectrum are the compact 12 cm models, such as the Mini G-spot vibrator black (€9.95) and the light blue version (€9.99). These are not only shorter, but they are also slimmer and lighter — handy if you are looking for something that takes up little space in a drawer or suitcase.
Rule of thumb: check if the product page distinguishes between total length and insertable length. If only the total length is listed, assume five to eight centimeters for the grip.
Power source: battery or rechargeable
This is the most frequently noticed practical difference. Models that use coin cells or AAA batteries are cheaper to purchase, but you need spare batteries, and the motor power decreases as the battery drains. Rechargeable models have a USB connection or charging points and maintain their power more consistently for longer.
Practical tip for rechargeable models: check if a cable is included and what type it is. A magnetic charging clip is model-specific and cannot be replaced by any random cable from your drawer.
This says little about quality. On most models, the majority of those 36 functions consist of patterns (pulsating, waving, escalating); the number of constant speeds is often three to five. Therefore, it's better to look at how the controls work: can you return to a lower setting, or do you have to cycle through the entire list? The latter is the most common inconvenience with inexpensive models that have many settings.
Material and waterproofness
Common materials are silicone and ABS plastic, often in combination: a silicone outer layer over a hard core. What a specific model uses is stated on the product page — do not assume that every soft-feeling product is silicone.
Waterproofness is explicitly mentioned for some items, such as the Luxury Power Vibe with 12 settings (€20.00). Waterproof and splashproof are not the same: splashproof means rinsing under the tap, waterproof means submerging. If nothing is mentioned, assume wiping with a damp cloth and keeping the control panel and charging port dry.
Lubricant: pay attention to the combination with the material
Water-based lubricant is the safest choice because it is compatible with almost all materials. Silicone-based lubricant can damage silicone surfaces in the long run, and oil- and fat-containing products are discouraged by many manufacturers in combination with latex. Therefore, read both the lubricant label and the product manufacturer's advice.
Clean a product before first use and after each use. A specific toy cleaner is more convenient than soap because you spray it on and wipe it off, without having to submerge the entire item in water. The Toy Cleaner Spray of 150 ml costs €8.95; the odorless variant of 120 ml €7.95, which is pleasant if you prefer to avoid perfume.
Two storage tips that have the most impact:
Let the product dry completely before storing it. Moisture in a sealed bag is the most common cause of odor formation.
Do not store silicone products against each other. Different types of silicone can become sticky or discolored with prolonged contact. A separate bag or box for each product prevents this.
Remove batteries if you are not using a model for a long time. For rechargeable models, the usual advice is not to leave them completely drained for months.
