A ready-made bachelor party package seems cheaper than buying everything separately, but often doesn't cover the numbers for a large group. Two routes calculated with real prices, plus a breakdown per guest.

You have a bachelor party for twelve people to organize and two tabs open. One lists a ready-made package for €24.95 with thirteen items. The other has your own list: a wig, a hat, straws, a game, and candy. That second list has now grown to over €37.00, and you're not even finished. Still, the cheaper package isn't automatically the better choice.

The difference isn't in the price per item, but in what you actually do with it on the day itself. Below, we'll go through both options and see when each wins.

What a ready-made package actually is

A package is a bundle of individual party items in one box, put together by the manufacturer. The numbers in the title indicate the number of components, not the number of guests: the Bachelor Party Package 13-piece for €24.95 contains thirteen items, not thirteen sets for thirteen people. The same applies to the Bachelorette Party Set with 7 gadgets for €19.95, the Bachelor Party Set with 8 games and gadgets for €19.95, and the Bachelorette Party Set with 8 gadgets for €22.95.

So, always read the product page before ordering, and count which items are meant for one person (usually the bride or groom) and which are for the group. This distinction determines whether you need one package or two.

The calculation: package versus individual items

Imagine: twelve guests, one main person, an afternoon outdoors and an evening indoors. Here's what putting it together yourself looks like with actual prices:

Item For whom Price
Funny penis wig, pink Main person € 9.95
Funny hat, one size Main person € 14.95
Straws, set of 10 Group € 5.00
Stirring sticks Group € 2.00
Picks, 6 pieces Snacks € 7.95
Dice Game € 4.95
Lolly, per piece Giveaway € 3.95

Without the lollies, you're at €44.80. With twelve lollies, one per guest, you're at €92.20. In that light, the €24.95 package is dirt cheap — but it doesn't cover the straws and picks for twelve people, and it doesn't provide a giveaway per guest.

The fair comparison is therefore not 'package or individual', but: package as a base, supplemented individually for the quantities. A package of €24.95 plus straws for €5.00 and stirring sticks for €2.00 brings you to €31.95 for a fully decorated table — much cheaper than buying everything individually, and quicker to order.

When it's better to buy everything individually

Four situations where a package won't help you:

  • You have a clear theme. A package chooses its own style and color. If you want everything to match, you're better off determining that yourself with individual items.
  • Your group is large. Above fifteen guests, you'll be buying consumables anyway. In that case, one package is an expensive basis for something you'll be reordering.
  • There are things included that don't fit. For a mixed group or a party with colleagues, you want to decide for yourself how far it goes. Individual choice gives you that control.
  • You want to keep something. A party game for €14.95, a beer glass for €7.95, or an ice cube tray for €7.95 will go from this party to the next. You'd rather consciously choose such keepsakes than have them coincidentally included in a package.

When a package actually wins

A package is the better choice if you have little time, if you don't need to decorate the party yourself, or if it's meant as a gift to be handed over all at once. You have one item number, one delivery, one price. For a surprise you give someone else — for example, a friend who's organizing the party — that's exactly what you want.

Also practical: a package comes in one box, making it easier to transport. Whoever celebrates the party at a different location would rather carry one package than seven loose bags.

Calculating per guest instead of per package

The common mistake is calculating per package. Calculate per guest, and your order will be correct the first time. A practical breakdown:

  1. One main person item. A wig for €9.95, a hat for €14.95, or a hat with veil for €4.95. One item, clearly visible.
  2. One small distinguishing item per guest. Think of a lolly for €3.95 or a roll of candy for €3.00. Count the number of guests and order that quantity.
  3. Consumables for the table. Estimate one and a half to two straws per person for an evening. Twelve guests means two sets of ten: €10.00.
  4. One to two games. More are rarely played. A die for €4.95 and possibly the inflatable penis battle set for €19.95 for outdoors.
  5. Glass or shot. A set of six shot glasses of 60 ml costs €3.00; for twelve guests, you'll need two.

With these five rules, you'll have a correct order list within ten minutes, whether you work with or without a package.

Order on time, even for a small party

Packages are pre-assembled and not always restocked: some sets have only a few in stock. Individual items like straws, candy, and dice are usually more readily available. If you definitely want a specific package, order it as soon as the date is set and supplement later with consumables — you can order those up until just before the party.
