A wall-mounted model is larger and constructed differently than a regular vibrator. What to look for in terms of length, weight, drive, material, and cleaning — with the models currently in stock.
Anyone who places a wand massager next to a regular vibrator for the first time is usually surprised by its size. A wand vibrator is not a smaller or larger version of the same product: it is a different type of device, with a large rounded head, a long handle, and a motor built for power rather than discretion. This also makes the choice different. This guide covers the practical aspects — length, weight, power source, material, and maintenance — so you know what to look for before ordering something.
What distinguishes a wand massager
Three things. First, the head: round, wide, and flexibly attached, resulting in a large contact surface. Second, the handle: it provides reach so you don't have to twist your wrist into an awkward angle. Third, the motor: wand massagers are generally in the heavier category in terms of power, which you notice in both intensity and sound.
The latter is a real consideration. A powerful motor makes noise, no matter how good the casing is. If you live in an apartment with thin walls or share a house, consciously choose a smaller model — these are noticeably quieter. If you want to know the volume before ordering, you can always ask us what is known about a specific model.
Length and weight: 32 cm, 19.5 cm or mini
The size affects ease of use more than you think. Roughly, there are three classes.
For full-size models, also pay attention to weight. A long model that you hold with your arm extended will feel heavier after a few minutes than in the store. If you are debating between long and mid-length, mid-length is the safer choice for most people.
Power source: battery, USB or cord
Classic wand massagers ran on mains power; nowadays, most are rechargeable via USB. Practical difference: a mains-powered model provides constant power and never runs out halfway, but you are tied to an outlet and a cable. A battery-powered model is free to use and easier to store, but you have to remember to charge it.
The number of settings is less important than the operation. Ten to twelve settings sounds like a lot, but in practice, almost everyone uses two or three. More important is whether you can quickly return to the lowest setting, whether you have to cycle through all patterns with one button, and whether the buttons can be operated with a slippery hand. Models with separate buttons for speed and pattern are more practical than models with one button.
The heads are usually made of silicone or hard plastic with a silicone layer. Silicone is smooth, easy to clean, and non-porous. There is one fixed rule for this: do not use silicone-based lubricant on silicone material. Silicone lubricant can damage the surface of silicone toys, making them sticky or dull. Water-based lubricant is the safe standard choice and is also easier to wash out of textiles.
Do not assume that a device is waterproof. Many wand massagers are splash-proof at the head but not at the charging port or battery compartment. Therefore, do not hold the device under the tap unless the manufacturer explicitly states so. In practice, it suffices to clean the head with lukewarm water and mild soap or a special cleaner, then let it dry completely before storing it.
Store silicone products separately. Two silicone surfaces that lie against each other for months can stick together or discolor. A cloth bag or its own box per device is enough. Do not store a battery-powered model completely empty: recharge it if you are not using it for a long time.
In short
Mid-length (approx. 19 to 20 cm) is more comfortable for most people than 32 cm.
More settings are not better; good operation is.
Battery for freedom, cord for constant power.
On silicone: only water-based lubricant.
Not under the tap unless the manufacturer states so.
Store separately, dry and not completely discharged.
